Magnesita

Magnesita is a brazilian Company, listed in the brazilian Stock Exchange, devoted to mining, production and marketing of a broad range of refractory materials. More than 13 thousand different types are produced, from monolithic materials and conventional bricks to high technology ceramics for lining equipments that operate at high temperatures. The products are mainly used by steel, cement and glass manufacturers.

The company has the benefit of one of the largest and best magnesite, dolomite and talcum reserves in the world. Furthermore it prospects other mineral deposits all over the world.

Currently, the company operates 28 industrial and mining units, 16 of them in Brazil, three in Germany, three in China, one in the United States, two in France, one in Belgium, one in Taiwan and one in Argentina, with total refractory production capacity of more than 1.4 million tons a year. Magnesita is the third largest producer of refractory products in the world and a leader in integrated solutions with refractory products.

In the beginning of the 1990 decade, Magnesita developed a solution based on refractory cost per ton of steel produced, or CPP (cost per performance). It is a business model in which the remuneration is directly related to customers’ performance, moving away from the usual practice of the market where the customer pays per volume (in tons) of refractory products consumed.
