Magnesita has an extensive line of alumina and basic pre-cast shapes. These parts are produced using a wide variety of refractory concrete types that are developed in accordance with each customer’s specific requirements. Alumina concretes with low cement content, ultra-low cement content and without cement at all available.

Product design and manufacturing

In addition to selection of the correct refractory concrete for the application, the design of the shape and the manufacturing process also play important roles in determining the ultimate performance of the pre-cast shape. Therefore, the design team constantly carries out development and improvement of products, while the process team strictly follows up the processing (mixing, molding, curing and drying), thereby guaranteeing the physical integrity of the finished parts.

Pre-cast shapes are used throughout the steel production process. Some examples are:

• Delta for electric arc furnace;
• Gas and powder injection lance;
• Plugs for argon injection;
• Stir plug and ladle well blocks;
• Lower snorkel for the RH degasser;
• Turbulence inhibitor for the steel tundish.
